Democratizing User Interfaces: End-User Implications for UI Personalization

In this talk, I discuss the democratization of user interfaces. Employing a user-centered approach, we conducted four studies to investigate how UI creators can reimagine interfaces to ensure users are active participants in the design process. We consolidated our findings into a design space that maps key dimensions and software qualities for future work in the field. We expect this design space to guide UI creators in developing personalization mechanisms better aligned with people's needs and expectations.
